Corpus Christi Blessing of the Animals

  • It is not uncommon, come October, to find a motley collection of animals — dogs, frogs, cats, rats  — gathering on an appointed day at the nearest Catholic church. On that day, usually a day close to the feast of St Francis of Assisi, it is a custom in many parishes to bless the pets of parishioners. This is done in remembrance of St Francis who thought of all living things as brother and sister creatures, and celebrated them in his songs and his life. To announce the Corpus Christi Blessing of the Animals, we designed a special set of posters, encouraging parishioners to bring their pets to be blessed.
