  • A poster series promoting The Tartan Turban Secret Readings. Every poster is an original work of typographic art. Event posters reflect various aspects of the series. Some focus on the simple act of reading, others on the theme of a particular evening. The Tartan Turban Secret Readings began in May 2017 to commemorate Canada’s sesquicentennial. Hosted at Barrett and Welsh, the readings are secret because they are by invitation only and because they take place after hours. When everyone who works at Barrett and Welsh has left for the day, the office springs into life again after dark.

The Tartan Turban Secret Readings support established and emerging writers who identify themselves as black, indigenous or people of colour and who have few such platforms to present their words and voices. All who celebrate Canada’s visible diversity and indigenous heritage may read. Agency co-founder Gavin Barrett and novelist Mayank Bhatt co-curate the series. Updates on the next reading can be found at the Facebook group for the series.
