York Region Transit: Kids on the bus

  • York Region Transit wanted something special for its space in the Region’s community safety village, so we changed the safety teaching game and made learning truly game-like. Instead of a typical top-down safety instructional session we created an experience. We started by creating a Spokesbus – a robotronic interactive bus named Toby. Toby engaged visiting schoolkids in funny (a student comic manned the interaction) memorable chats while they waited their turn at a facsimile YRT bus stop. Kids then sat in the “autotorium” a mini auditorium designed to resemble a bus interior and joined in a karaoke safety video. After the video, giant table puzzles engaged and challenged the kids to remember the safety messages in the video and song. The experience we created made this venue the gold standard for other safety exhibitors. Our work for YRT and Viva won riders, recognition and and continues to be reported around the world as a great case study in transit marketing and communications. You can read one example here.
